Family Support Link was set up by Sandra McDermott and became a registered charity in 2007.
After having gone through what many of our clients go through Sandra felt that the families and loved ones of people going through alcohol and/or drug problems had no support of their own, so she set up a telephone support line. This was the beginning of FSL.
Sandra retired from her role as CEO in December 2019 and Julia Feazey took over the role of CEO at Family Support Link.
In 2021 our Trustees made the decision to transition from our then legal status as a 'standard registration' charity to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). CIOs are registered charities and are administered by the Charity Commission. Other than the change to our legal entity and the new number, nothing else has changed. Our mission and Objects remain the same.
Today FSL works in Northamptonshire with children age from 5 years old up to adults. We support families, carers and close friends of those with substance or alcohol misuse problems.
The team today offers 1:1 support for children, young people and adults, evening group support for adults, well-being groups and youth groups.
We take referrals from other agencies but people can also self refer.
